“I Think So” – Simone Inzaghi on Whether Ciro Immobile’s Failed Penalty Kick Changed Lazio’s Momentum in Loss to Bologna

Early in the fixture against Bologna FC 1909, Ciro Immobile had the opportunity to give Lazio the early lead. After Joaquin Correa generated a foul inside the box, the Biancocelesti received a penalty-kick chance.

The Italian striker failed to convert the opportunity, and it seemed as though the wasted chance to go up 1-0 provided Bologna with some confidence. Minutes later, Ibrahima Mbaye converted on a second chance opportunity to beat goalkeeper Pepe Reina to give Bologna the 1-0 lead.

As Lazio fought to tie the fixture, Simone Inzaghi’s side surrendered a second goal to Nicola Sansone, who converted his one-touch strike to beat Reina. The goal would be the final nail in the coffin as Lazio would lose 2-0.

In his post-match press conference, Inzaghi spoke about the missed penalty kick and whether it played a significant role in providing momentum to Bologna. Piazza della Libertà relayed the comments from the Italian tactician.

Did the penalty change the fate of the game? I think so. We approached the match well. We were dominating but then we conceded an early goal. The game started in the best way. We had to do better but we must move on…
