Heading into the fixture against Bologna FC 1909, Lazio was hoping to rebound after their 4-1 loss to FC Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

The Biancocelesti needed to re-focus on their domestic competition as they’re in a fight for a top-four position; however, to no avail. Lazio had an opportunity to take the early lead over Bologna when Joaquin Correa earned a penalty kick opportunity after being fouled inside the box.

Nonetheless, Ciro Immobile couldn’t capitalize on the penalty kick chance as he failed on the attempt. Minutes later, Bologna scored the first goal in the match and eventually would go on to win 2-0.

Italian football journalist Riccardo Cucchi tweeted out Lazio’s inability to put behind the Bayern Munich loss as it dragged into their domestic competition. Furthermore, the failed penalty kick is also an incident that the squad let affect them as Bologna would score moments later after the failed opportunity.

A deserved victory for Bologna. Mihajlovic’s team was able to take advantage of a fragile Lazio. The Biancocelesti were weak mentally and on the offensive level, despite having 60% possession. The Champions League game weighed too much them.
