“It Was Impossible to Lose” – Siniša Mihajlović Discusses the Key Moments in Bologna’s Win Over Lazio

Bologna FC 1909 was an opportunity for Lazio to bounce back after a tough defeat mid-week at the hands of FC Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

After the 4-1 defeat to the German giants, the Biancocelesti needed to re-focus on Serie A. A fixture against a club at the bottom half of the table was what Lazio needed to regain any confidence they lost during the week.

However, that didn’t go as planned. Ciro Immobile had the opportunity to strike first after a foul on Joaquin Correa awarded them a penalty kick. Rather than going up 1-0, the 31-year-old failed to convert, and the match remained 0-0 for a few moments.

Ibrahima Mbaye would provide Bologna the lead moments later, and Siniša Mihajlović’s side didn’t look back as they come away with a 2-0 win. During his interview with Sky Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the 52-year-old stated that after those two sequences of events (the penalty kick save and the Mbaye goal) that he knew that his squad was coming away with the victory.

We had an excellent match. After the penalty kick save and Mbaye’s goal, it was impossible to lose, I said it. We put in more intensity on their side of the pitch and we did well with the ball. I’m happy with the performance.
