Heading into the match against Juventus, Lazio were looking to come away with points on the road. The possibility of finishing in the top-four was beginning to slip away, and so Simone Inzaghi’s side wanted to prove that they still had what it took to defeat the reigning champions; especially after a disappointing loss to Bologna.
After getting off to a good start, capitalizing off of a mistake by Juventus in their midfield to take the early 1-0 lead, it felt as though Lazio could come away with all three points. However, that reality came crashing down soon after.
Juventus would score before the half to take away any momentum that Lazio wanted to carry into the second half. Then in a matter of minutes, the Turin-based club put two goals into Pepe Reina’s net. Álvaro Morata scored both as Juventus put three straight goals, to which Lazio couldn’t recover.
Inzaghi spoke to the microphones of DAZN (via Football Italia), where he discussed his squad’s performance in their 3-1 loss to Juventus.
It’s difficult to comment on a 3-1 result after that game, but evidently what we do isn’t enough and we have to do more.
This defeat hurts, as we were 1-0 up and doing very well, then hit the bar when it was 1-1, and then conceded a goal off of a counter-attack following our own counter-attack that failed…
We deserved far more, I think we controlled much of the game, but we need to do more. We mustn’t give up; we have to keep believing in what we do and start to get players back to form because there’s a long way to go.
We have to keep going and not lose our confidence.
