Bayern Munich Defender Suffers Knee Injury as UCL Ro16 Return Leg Versus Lazio Looms

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 return leg between Lazio and FC Bayern Munich will take place in ten days. Despite the fixture being a week away, the Bavarian side could be without a significant defender when the Biancocelesti travel to the Allianz Arena.

In Bayern Munich’s 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker, central defender Jérôme Boateng left the pitch at the 70th-minute mark due to suffering a strained left knee. The 32-year-old will now begin his rehabilitation, but there’s no diagnosis of how much time Boateng is going to miss due to the injury.

After their come from behind win over Dortmund, Bayern Munich manager Hans-Dieter Flick spoke about Boateng’s injury, with La Lazio Siamo Noi relaying his words.

He felt his knee turn, but we know nothing more: in the next few hours, he will undergo medical examinations, and then we will be able to understand how to manage his situation.

Nonetheless, with Bayern Munich up 4-1 on the aggregate score, the German giants could decide not to risk the defender’s health for this fixture. Regardless, Lazio still has a challenging task ahead if they want to climb out of this three-goal hole on the road in Munich.
