“Every Mistake We Make Ends up in Goal” – Joaquin Correa Discusses Lazio’s Difficult Stretch After Loss to Juventus

Lazio opened their fixture against Juventus on a positive note as Joaquin Correa opened up the scoring by taking advantage of a mistake in the midfield by the Turin-based club.  After a defeat last weekend to Bologna FC 1909, the Biancocelesti needed to come away with points despite the formidable challenge of attempting to defeating Juventus. Nonetheless, the Correa goal provided some optimism that Lazio could come out with three points.

However, all optimistic thoughts from supporters reached the deflation stage when the Lazio defense allowed the Adrien Rabiot goal towards the end of the first half. The goal erased any momentum that Simone Inzaghi’s side wanted to carry into halftime. Juventus would score two goals, which came three minutes apart that sealed the loss for Lazio.

Correa, Lazio’s lone goal scorer in the match, spoke to Lazio Style Radio‘s microphones (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) where he discussed the loss and the squad’s mentality as they deal with a three-game losing streak.

We’re in a bit of a strange period; every mistake we make ends up in goal. It is a period from which we have to get out of as men; tomorrow we will rest, then we get back to work.

I think we all gave our all on the pitch against Juve. These types of matches happen; the ones that don’t go the way you want. We can get out of this moment with humility and continuing to believe in what we know how to do.

We must not underestimate any team in Serie A; we must always play to show that we are a team and fight until the end. We must keep the same intensity throughout the race and continue to believe in what we are and in what we can give.

I try to do my best for the team; sometimes I score, sometimes I assist, but I leave everything on the pitch when I play. I would like to always help the team when I can, and I will do so when we return to train for the match against Crotone.
