Ex-Director Paglia: “Lazio Returned to This Level Thanks to Inzaghi, Not the Club”

Former Lazio Communications Manager Guido Paglia thought that coach Simone Inzaghi would sign a contract extension soon.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, Paglia first spoke about Inzaghi’s renewal.

Simone is in love with Lazio, he is in love with Rome, he would like to stay here all his life, as well as his wife. He would go on for the next two or three years. I don’t have doubts about him, but about Lotito.

Paglia then moved onto discussing the Biancocelesti’s work in the transfer market over the last 12 months.

For me the problems are with the club and the sporting director, there’s no doubt about that. You have to explain to me why we had to sign a player like Muriqi and spend a lot of money. It’s true that we needed to find a replacement for Immobile, but we could have got one from Italy.

We should have invested in a strong centre-back, there are many things that don’t make sense to me in this story. We almost never buy the players Inzaghi wants here in Italy, we always have to go out and buy them. Then one day we’ll put all these strange purchases in a row.

Many people only remember the last few years, and don’t think about what was the whole period of president Lotito. And if Lazio have returned to this level, it’s down to Inzaghi, not the club.
