“We Must Continue Like This” – Gonzalo Escalante Discusses Lazio’s Win Over Crotone

After a tough stretch of fixtures that resulted in a three-match winless streak, Lazio finally got back into the win column in Matchday 27. The Biancocelesti picked up a 3-2 victory over FC Crotone at the Stadio Olimpico, thanks to goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Luis Alberto and Felipe Caicedo.

Gonzalo Escalante played 20 minutes in the win; however, the 27-year-old played a crucial role in his short time on the pitch. Escalante registered an assist on the Felipe Caicedo that would be the game-winner.

Following the win, the midfielder spoke with the Lazio Style Channel (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) to discuss the result and contributing to the third goal.

I’m delighted with the result; that’s what counts.

I always say that the group is everything; ours is very strong. We are all friends, and we saw that when we rejoiced after Luis Alberto’s goal.

No match in Serie A is easy; now we have to think about the Champions League, knowing that [Bayern Munich] are very strong.

Today, we secured three fundamental points, and we must continue like this. Our opponents on the pitch played well today; Crotone put us in difficulty, however, what matters is that we won.

In Serie A competition, Escalante is primarily coming off the bench; 15 of his 19 appearances have come as a substitute. Furthermore, SofaScore states that the 27-year-old is averaging 33 minutes per game this season with Lazio.

As the Rome-based club has struggled for offense over the last few weeks, perhaps manager Simone Inzaghi could look at Escalante as a starter to see if he can contribute more offensively.
