Bayern Munich finished off Lazio with a 2-1 win in the return match to clinch the UEFA Champions League tie win. Bayern got its goals off from a penalty score and a quick transition finish.
Many speculated whether Bayern would look to simply hold off Lazio or add to the three-goal aggregate lead. As Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich revealed (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after the match, the reigning Bundesliga champions opted for the latter.
It was important to win this game, even though we had a good result in the first leg. We wanted to show that we want to win every game. It’s in our DNA and in our approach to every game.
It would have been nice to keep a clean sheet. We didn’t. Even today, against an opponent who didn’t have much to play for, we didn’t succeed.
Bayern is now in the Champions League quarterfinals once again while Lazio now turns its attention to the remainder of its Serie A campaign where it will look to potentially clinch a spot in next season’s Champions League group stage.
