Even with his prime days far behind him, Pepe Reina still is capable of delivering top performances for a team in Europe’s top five leagues.
Reina took hold of the starting goalkeeper role for Lazio earlier this season, and since then, he has not looked back. The Spanish goalkeeper has so far totalled for 21 starts in league play this season.
More so, as noted by Transfermarkt, Reina has recorded seven Serie A clean sheets, which is tied with Napoli’s David Ospina and Benevento’s Lorenzo Montipo for the fourth-most this season. Inter Milan’s Samir Handanovic remains the league-leader in clean sheets with 10.
For Reina, this number of clean sheets are the most that he has recorded in a season since his 18 clean sheets in 37 league appearances for Napoli back over the 2017-2018 campaign.
Even with Lazio’s questionable defensive play as of late, Reina is doing his part to keep opponents off of the scoresheet.
