Lazio Primavera Coach Menichini: “Guerini’s Soul Is Inside the Locker Room”

Lazio Primavera coach Leonardo Menichini expressed his sadness over the passing of 19-year-old Italian midfielder Daniel Guerini earlier today.

Speaking in an interview with Lazio Style Radio, the 67-year-old Italian commented on the death of the Biancocelesti Primavera player.

Devastating news, to think that he was training with us only yesterday. You can imagine what we’re going through right now, we know his soul is inside the locker room and this must be the best way for us to honour him. We know he will help us.

He was a popular guy with everyone, cheerful, joking, never a word out of line, a very good player who was looking for his space. Unfortunately, this tragedy has happened and the first people I think of are his family.

I want to send my condolences to his parents and to those of the other boy who died, it is a wound that will never heal.

To honour him in the best possible way we must remember him for his smiles, his being in the squad knowing that he is with us at all times, he will give the impetus to go beyond what is possible. I am still shaken and moved too. We need to know that Daniel is with us.

The 19-year-old Guerini sadly passed away yesterday evening following a car crash at a junction in Rome.
