Leonardo Spinazzola Comments on Wanting to Bring Francesco Acerbi to Roma for Veteran Leadership

This week, the Italy national football team kicked off its 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying fixtures. After missing the tournament in 2018, Roberto Mancini and this Italian side want to get back to the World Cup.

After a 2-0 win over Northern Ireland, Mancini and Italy got off to the right foot. In the press conference ahead of Italy’s next World Cup qualifying fixture versus Bulgaria, AS Roma midfielder Leonardo Spinazzola highlighted the veteran defenders of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci, and Francesco Acerbi.

Lazio News relayed Spinazzola’s comments as the 28-year-old stated that their backline contains a significant number of young defenders at Roma. As a result, there are going to be mistakes and growing pains that all players go through.

At Roma, we are a young team with a young defense, and we can make mistakes. It is part of the growth. Here on the national team, there are Chiellini, Bonucci, and Acerbi. I would bring all three to Roma if I could.

Furthermore, Spinazzola jokingly added that he’d like to bring Chiellini, Bonucci, and Acerbi back to Roma because of the veteran presence they provide. Not sure either Juventus FC or Lazio will be willing to depart with their defenders, but Roma can try.
