Lazio Sporting Director Tare: “We’ll Certainly Do Something to Remember Guerini”

Lazio sporting director Igli Tare expressed his sadness over the death of Primavera midfielder Daniel Guerini last week.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, Tare remembered the 19-year-old Italian.

I found out from my son, they were very close friends and on the evening of the accident he came down to my room and told me. I thought it was a joke, but he told me it was true. It was a hard blow, a real tragedy, losing your life at the age of 19 leaves important marks.

Etienne asked me for help to verify the news, but it was too late. Daniel’s people confirmed immediately, it was a tragedy. I called his family the next day, I heard from his mother to express my condolences.

Not only my son, the whole team was close to him, he was a joker, he liked to joke around, it’s a very close squad. Damiano Franco, Armini and others had known him for many years, that moment and the day after were among the worst moments of my life.

An immense and unbearable pain, we sought silence to reflect on our lives. They are really tough moments.

He spoke highly of Guerini the player.

He was a boy of great technical talent, a trequartista or second striker, left-footed, short, he lacked that extra something but you could see he had shooting skills and everything, with patience he could come out.

Four years ago, he went to Torino, then SPAL, Fiorentina and Torino again. He wanted to come back to Lazio and we satisfied him because we knew he could help us a lot.

Tare remembered another Lazio player who passed away from a car crash years ago, Mirko Fersini.

The nightmare of Mirko Fersini was a hard blow, also for Inzaghi.

In the last few days we’ve been remembering that period, we hoped we wouldn’t have to relive it again, but to see a situation like that again is very, very tough.

Finally, Tare spoke about the funeral and any memorials.

We will certainly do something to remember him, we will take the right decision. He was a Lazio boy, a fan. The funeral should be on Thursday at midday, we’ll confirm today.

The Primavera, the club and the first team will be there.

Bringing him to Formello? We’ve asked permission but we can’t do it, his family knows the reasons why.
