Former Italian Forward Del Piero Analyzes Whether Ciro Immobile Should be a Regular Starter for Italy

Former Italian and Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero provided his take on whether Italy should rely on Ciro Immobile to be its starting center-forward.

Immobile is just coming off of a one-goal showing in the Italian national team’s 2022 World Cup qualifying fixture against Lithuania. Immobile scored a late penalty goal to cap off a 2-0 win for the side. However, Immobile did miss multiple high percentage goal-scoring opportunities in the match.

As Del Piero detailed to ESPNFC, Immobile does have the potential to be a starter with Italy.

I trust Ciro, he is an amazing guy. He’s very generous. He’s running a lot; he’s taking a lot of opportunities. In order to be in front of the goalkeeper so many times, it means that you play very well and you are in the right spot.

Thank God that he had this penalty at the end, so he finished the game with a little smile but of course, he’s gonna be a little bit sad about how many opportunities he missed.

How much can we trust him with this Italy, this is the biggest question mark because we change a lot of players.

For now, Immobile will surely look to finish off his season with Lazio on a high note.
