Lazio forward Ciro Immobile started in the Italian national team’s 2022 World Cup qualifying fixture against Lithuania. Italy ended up taking home a key 2-0 win from the match.
For Immobile, he sealed the win for Italy thanks to a late penalty goal. But overall, it was not the best performance from the Lazio star as he missed multiple high percentage goal-scoring opportunities in the fixture.
Italian journalist Paolo Condo took note of Immobile’s outing and saw that it was a sluggish showing from Lazio’s current leading goal-scorer.
Condo spoke to Sky Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) about Immobile’s performance in the match.
Immobile was wasteful but not to be rejected. Immobile missed a lot of goals, but he soothed the pain with a penalty kick in the 90th minute. In this moment, he is not brilliant, but not to be rejected; he will make up for it.
Immobile is still currently vying to be Italy’s top starter at the center-forward position.
