“We Won Thanks to Our Humility” – Massimiliano Farris Comments on Lazio’s 2-1 Win Over Spezia

Coming off the FIFA international break. Lazio needed to get off on the right foot as Simone Inzaghi’s side wants to make a final push for a top-four finish in Serie A.

The Biancocelesti welcomed Spezia Calcio to the Stadio Olimpico, and as their opponent fights relegation, Lazio had to take advantage to come away with all three points.

During the interview with DAZN (via Lazio News), Massimiliano Farris stepped in for Inzaghi to discuss the 2-1 result for Lazio.

We knew that they would put us under a lot of pressure for about hour. The team was good at absorbing the pressure, and then we had chances. Today’s Serie A is balanced; Spezia plays a good game.

In the last minutes of the game, we put our spirit into play, dusting off ancient values. The guys who played today gave everything: from self-denial to humility. During the match, our qualities emerged, and then we were rewarded with a penalty kick. We won thanks to our humility.

One of the intriguing decisions that Inzaghi made in the second half was the quick substitutions of Andreas Pereira and Senad Lulić at the 52nd-minute mark. In came Luis Alberto and Mohamed Fares. Farris discussed the thought process for Inzaghi to bring in new substitutes early into the second half.

Pereira moved well; he doesn’t have the same habit as Luis Alberto in making specific movements. This is also because he does not play continuously, and that has been noted. During the championship, yellow cards weigh heavily on a team. Inzaghi wants to change players that are on a yellow, as it prevents us from going down to 10 men. Also, since we have five substitutions, it is not worth the risk to keep a player on who is booked.

Farris would then discussed Luis Alberto, who played 38 minutes in the second half.

Luis Alberto has shown affection to this shirt. He underwent a fortuitous intervention in training, and the clinical tests showed a slight strain in his ankle, but he worked 24 hours a day with the doctors to try and be fit enough for the game. This morning, in the last training session, he told us that he would be available. We said that we have ten finals ahead of us; today it was essential to win, so we brought him on.

Finally, Farris answered a question concerning next week’s opponent Hellas Verona FC.

Verona plays a similar game to Atalanta. The negative notes from today’s match are the two red cards that Lazzari and Correa received… After Easter, we will prepare to face a delicate away fixture against the Gialloblu.
