“The Champions League Race in Serie A Is Fascinating” – Roberto De Cosmi Discusses Lazio Finishing In the Top Four

The end of the Serie A season is approaching, and the race for the UEFA Champions League is a tight one.

Nine points separate second-place AC Milan and seventh place AS Roma, and there are eight matchdays left in the season after this weekend’s action. A bad run for any club to close out the season could result in someone possibly losing their Champions League spot.

In an interview with the Lazio Style Channel (via Lazio News), manager Roberto De Cosmi spoke about Serie A’s race and who he believes will be the other three clubs joining Inter Milan in next year’s edition of the Champions League.

In our league, there are no easy matches now. The attitude must be always be proper. Lazio have some defections, but they will surely make a virtue of necessity. We will need a great Lazio. The Champions League race in Serie A is fascinating.  There are practically five teams within five points of each other. I would put Milan out by putting Lazio in the top four. The Rossoneri seem to me to have the least potential to finish in the top four. Atalanta is in full swing; Juventus have no chance to make a mistake.

AC Milan is in second place with 60 points and is four points away from fifth place. Lazio is six points out of fourth place, so it would be an impressive feat for them to climb into a Champions League spot, as De Cosmi states. Another topic that De Cosmi touched on in the interview is Felipe Caicedo and his thoughts on the 32-year-old.

It is an essential element at the level of the organization and also in the rotations themselves. I have great esteem for Correa, but Caicedo is decisive; he has great stubbornness in terms of results. I would be happy to see him from the first minute. He could give an essential boost for the Champions League race.
