Wesley Hoedt Set for Southampton Return As Lazio Decline Purchase Option

Southampton loanee Wesley Hoedt is in the midst of his third straight loan stint as he joined Lazio over the recent summer transfer window on a mere one-year loan agreement.

Lazio agreed to the loan move with the inclusion of a €5 million purchase option in the deal, which would then make the loan stint a permanent transfer move. However, as relayed by Lazio News, the Biancocelesti now have no plans of triggering the purchase option. Thus, Hoedt will return to Southampton at the end of the season.

Lazio reportedly had planned earlier this season to keep Hoedt. One such report noted that Lazio was impressed by the Dutch defender’s first half of the season performances and thus aimed at triggering the purchase option. However, Lazio may have had a change of plans as the side now repeatedly will part ways with Hoedt at the end of the season.

Hoedt has so far totaled for 15 Serie A appearances this season. However, the Dutch talent has fallen out of favor with Lazio’s coaching staff as he has not featured in any of Lazio’s last five fixtures in all competitions.

He last appeared in a match with Lazio during its 3-1 league loss to Juventus last month.
