Ex-Lazio Midfielder Ledesma: “The Atmosphere Was Hellish at the Stadio San Paolo”

Former Lazio midfielder Cristian Ledesma noted the difficulty of playing in a packed Stadio San Paolo earlier today.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) this afternoon, the 38-year-old Argentinian first touched on Lazio’s results this season.

Inzaghi has done a great job with Lazio this year despite the many difficulties, having a great Champions League group.

He touched on if Lucas Leiva was a similar player to himself.

Football has changed, today there are several players who build the play and do everything, from the goalkeeper to the central midfielder, as happens with Reina, Acerbi and Luis Alberto in the Biancoceleste team.

He spoke about two backup midfielders at Lazio, Danilo Cataldi and Gonzalo Escalante.

Lazio already had a backup to Leiva with Cataldi, he showed he could play those 5-10 games in that role.

Escalante has played little to be judged, the Biancocelesti should perhaps have taken another starter who would have increased the competitiveness with Leiva.

Finally, Ledesma remembered a difficult match against Napoli ahead of this evening’s clash against the Partenopei.

The game we won 4-2 in 2015 at the old San Paolo was important for me, I had been thinking about it for months beforehand and it could have been my last with Lazio.

There were difficult moments, the atmosphere was hellish and for a few minutes we couldn’t even play two passes in a row.

Every tackle was fundamental and, in the end, we managed to win that historic challenge.
