Assistant Coach Farris Discusses Lazio’s Mentality Following 5-2 Loss to Napoli

Lazio came away with a lowly 5-2 loss to Napoli on Serie A matchday 32. Napoli put on one highlight-reel show in the match thanks to its multiple stunning goals scored over the course of the fixture.

Lazio assistant coach Massimiliano Farris is well displeased with the overall showing from his side. Still, Farris sees that Lazio can not throw in the towel considering that it still could make a late, serious push for a top-four spot in the Serie A table.

Farris spoke further to Sky Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) about this mentality.

We have another direct confrontation on Monday. We have an advantage, one game less than the others – it’s another 3 points up for grabs. We can’t give up, after the incredible run we’ve had in 2021.

I looked at the numbers, and we got into the box so many times. We weren’t as concrete as they were in the area; they were ferocious with quality plays.

When it was 4-0 to Napoli, we could have been nervous, but we tried to reopen the game and went on 4-2. There was a reaction and a desire; we never lacked character.

Farris still is questioning the early penalty attempt provided to Napoli following the Sergej Milinkovic-Savic foul. However, Farris refrained from slamming the referees for the call.

From the field you never see anything. There were two games today, one until the penalty episode. Milinkovic got the ball and in the football I’ve played, whoever puts his head down plays a dangerous game.

In my opinion, penalties are important episodes that must be evaluated well. On the reversal of the match, it would have been a last man foul with a penalty in our favor.

Lazio will now look ahead to its remaining fixtures in the league campaign.
