After losing to Napoli 5-2 this past week, Lazio’s UEFA Champions League hopes took a hit, and now the Biancocelesti will need to take advantage of their small window to see if they can finish in Serie A’s top four.
Lazio will welcome back their manager Simone Inzaghi, who had missed their last three fixtures, including the loss to Napoli. Nonetheless, with a critical match against AC Milan and a makeup fixture against Torino FC, Lazio could find their way into the top four if they come away with all six points here.
The Biancocelesti will need to take care of business when it comes to the rest of its schedule. However, these are all against clubs below them in the table. Regardless of this favourable schedule, one former coach believes it’s too little too late for Lazio and their Champions League aspirations.
In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Lazio News), former Udinese manager Francesco Guidolin spoke about Lazio’s slim chances of finishing in the top four.
Although they are still technically in the running due to the match against Torino, Lazio seems a bit far away, and I don’t think they have a high probability of making the top four. For the rest of the season, the final sprint is uncertain, but for me, Atalanta is the one team in addition to Inter Milan that certainly qualifies for the Champions League.
