Lazio Cannot Afford to Drop Points to Smaller Teams in Race for UCL Qualification

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi highlighted to the squad the importance of winning the games against smaller teams.

According to a report from Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 45-year-old Italian coach is hopeful that the team will not falter in the remaining games of the season against the sides that are below them in the league table.

Considering how tight the race for a top-four finish is at the minute, the Lazio squad regret losing to Sampdoria, Udinese, Verona and Bologna, as well as drawing against Benevento and Genoa.

Even against the big teams, the Biancocelesti have struggled, only managing a single win against Atalanta, AC Milan, Napoli and Roma this campaign.

Despite this, Lazio’s have gained the fourth-most points in Serie A since the start of the year with 40, behind only Inter (46), Atalanta (43) and Napoli (41); The Roman club still have a game in hand to play against Torino as well.

Lazio’s final run of games this season is against Genoa, Fiorentina, Parma, Roma, Sassuolo and Torino and points cannot be dropped if they want to achieve Champions League qualification.
