Italian Manager Christian Panucci Doesn’t Believe Lazio Will Finish in Serie A’s Top Four

Lazio finds itself five points outside of a top-four spot; a spot that would allow them to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season. However, the Biancocelesti have one game in hand, and should they come away with all three points, Simone Inzaghi’s side would remain just two points out.

The Rome-based club will need to take care of their matches and not drop points, which shouldn’t be difficult. Eighth place U.S. Sassuolo Calcio would be the most challenging opponent for Lazio. After that, they’ll have to hope one of the clubs in second, third, or fourth place drop points.

Nonetheless, asking Inzaghi’s side to win the remainder of its fixtures then asking for some help could be too much for Lazio to overcome.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport (via Lazio News), Italian manager Christian Panucci spoke about the current race for the top four in Serie A and stated that he doesn’t like the chances of Lazio reaching Champions League football.

Lazio still fighting for the Champions League? They would have to perform a half miracle, if not a whole one, and the other clubs above them must drop points in at least two of their respective matches. It does not depend only on Lazio: they can only try to secure as many points as possible.

At the end, who will go to the Champions League? Juve remains the strongest in terms of squad and experience: if they bring out everything they have, in the end, I believe they will be there. Atalanta, Milan, and Napoli will all battle it out, with Gasperini the favorite because he is ahead in the standings and because he deserves to be there.
