Lazio Coach Inzaghi: “I Will Discuss My Contract Renewal at the End of the Season”

Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi confirmed that he was looking to sign a contract renewal with the club at the end of the season.

First speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN after yesterday’s 4-3 win over Genoa (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the 45-year-old Italian coach commented on the game.

The guys did very well, we scored four goals and we could have scored more. I’m happy to be the coach of this group, we’re there and we’ll try until the end knowing that for the fifth year in a row we’ll be in Europe.

But we want to be in the top four and we’ll try. Genoa are a very good team and if for 80 minutes we were very good at containing them, in the last ten minutes they believed and we suffered. That’s OK, Genoa are a Serie A team.

We created a lot, we’re in a great moment and the guys are playing good football. We deservedly won despite suffering in the last few minutes.

We want to win them all, we’ve had an almost perfect second half of the season after losing a few points in the first half. We wanted to do well in the Champions League. Once we were in the round of 16, we lost Luiz Felipe and Radu, who are players that are tough to replace.

The Biancocelesti coach then touched on his contract extension situation.

We’ll finish the season in the best possible way and then I will discuss my contract renewal at the end of the season calmly with the president. We’ll do everything without any problems.

Our season has been as wonderful as it has been in the last five years, I took over this team when it finished eighth. The hope is to build the strongest team possible but the important thing is to be there with the others.

Inzaghi then discussed the match in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Lazio Style Radio.

Having seen the guys play, I can say little, we could have scored a few more goals, Perin was very good.

With the penalty we gave them courage, but what can I say, we made the record of victories in the history of Lazio at home, I must congratulate the team, even if the last minutes should have been handled differently.

Now we have six days to prepare for the game in Florence, then the last four matches are all three days apart.

We’re behind schedule but with this pace we can play until the end.

The 45-year-old Italian coach spoke about the progress and good form of Argentine forward Joaquin Correa, who has now scored a brace in the last two games.

When he’s able to train without problems he’s extraordinary, he has excellent qualities, he can score goals and he puts himself at the service of the team.

Finally, Inzaghi commented on the Biancocelesti’s drop in concentration in the final 10 minutes of the match, which almost cost them points against Genoa yesterday.

80 minutes were done well, until the penalty we had limited Genoa, who have important players. The last minutes gave us pressure, but what can I say to this squad.

Lazio’s next game is against Beppe Iachini’s Fiorentina on Saturday evening. The Viola currently sit 14th in the Serie A table, but are only four points ahead of relegation candidates Benevento, and so will be fighting hard for the three points.
