Lazio Striker Immobile: “Source of Pride for Me to Match Silvio Piola’s All-Time Goal Record”

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile highlighted the squad’s need to maintain concentration after their 4-3 win over Genoa yesterday.

Speaking in an interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after the match, the 31-year-old Italian forward first discussed yesterday’s win.

Perin is a great goalkeeper, he has shown it today and throughout his career. He was really good today, not only against me.

Our usual mental lapse that must not happen, we risked again to compromise a game played perfectly.

We must improve on this aspect. When we concede at the end of games it’s not because of a physical drop, it’s a mental thing. We shouldn’t have conceded the penalty and the 4-3.

The Biancocelesti star then commented on how his goal yesterday saw him match Silvio Piola’s goal record with the Roman club. Immobile has now scored 149 goals for Lazio.

Piola made the history of this club and it’s an honour to be able to reach him.

For me this is a source of pride. When you miss penalties, you get a bit scared, the important thing was to win.

Finally, Immobile spoke about a conversation he had with Spanish midfielder Luis Alberto.

Before the penalty he told me that we couldn’t do what we did last year, that something always happens at the climax. But in the end, we did it today.
