“There Is Disappointment” – Simone Inzaghi Discusses Lazio’s Champions League Hopes After 2-0 Loss to Fiorentina

There’s no denying the fact that Lazio made their road to potentially play in the UEFA Champions League next season a lot harder after their 2-0 loss to Fiorentina. Even manager Simone Inzaghi understands the difficult task that lies ahead for his squad.

After the match, Inzaghi spoke to the microphones of DAZN (via Lazio News), where he discussed the loss to Fiorentina and revealed his overall disappointment for the result.

There is disappointment. We knew it was going to be tough.

Fiorentina did well in the first half when we were keeping possession. Unfortunately, certain periods of play can change the course of a match; this was the case with Correa’s missed opportunity. Also, we had to defend better on their first goal, and we did little in the second half.

There is regret as we played well in the first halfand didn’t have to go down 1-0. Unfortunately, we moved the ball too slowly around the pitch and were unable to finish our chances.

The Biancocelesti already required luck to finish in the top four, and now they’ll need a hail mary to see Champions League football next season. Inzaghi understands this, so the Italian tactician stated that they need to come away with all 12 points left on their schedule.

We need to secure twelve more points to finish the season in the best possible way.

Thanks to the Champions League and Covid, we lost a few points in the first half of the season, but that’s no excuse; we have to go with our heads held high after such a comeback.

Lazio’s opponents are all below them in the standings, so they’ll be considered the favourite. However, as this loss to Fiorentina showed, it doesn’t matter if an opponent is in the bottom half of the table; they’ll give Lazio all it can handle over the 90 minutes.
