Lazio’s hope of playing in the UEFA Champions League took a hit in Florence as Simone Inzaghi’s side fell 2-0 to ACF Fiorentina in what feels like a sour ending, considering the opponent they dropped points to this weekend.

Gaetano Castrovilli was one of players who were a thorn on Lazio’s side. Despite Fiorentina conceding possession, the times they did have the ball, Castrovilli had 36 touches, resulting in two key passes from the 24-year-old.

After the win over Lazio, Castrovilli spoke to the microphone of DAZN (via Lazio News) to discuss the victory over the Rome-based club.

I received a rough tackle, but I wanted to stay on the pitch for another 2 minutes to see how I was. I told the coach not to make the change because I was okay.

During the week, we prepared properly for this match. The coach was right, and we are happy with the victory; we deserve it. Now we have to face Cagliari with the same intensity.

Fear stops you a bit, but today we were good at dissolving it. We are a strong team, and we want to take away a lot of satisfaction.

We need to keep improving and prove it on the pitch.

Lazio now needs to win out and collect all 12 remaining points they have on their schedule. Then they have to hope that at least two of the four teams ahead of them in the fight for top four slip and drop points. The task ahead is difficult if it wasn’t one already for the Biancocelesti.
