Lazio Women’s Morace: “This Season’s Turning Point Was the Win Over Pomigliano”

Lazio Women coach Carolina Morace was proud of her squad’s promotion to Serie A after the derby win over Roma.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Lazio Style Radio (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 57-year-old Italian first discussed their work this season.

It was a splendid ride. We didn’t play the best game of the season against Roma but we won and that’s what counted. We gave President Lotito a nice birthday present but it was the least we could do.

She commented on the team’s play in the derby win over the Giallorossi.

We were a bit nervous, we missed a lot of passes, we couldn’t consolidate possession, but then Martin’s goal released us mentally. The girls relaxed and legitimized the advantage by dominating the match.

The former AC Milan Women coach commented on the turning point in the season.

Since Pomigliano and with the change of formation we have turned around the season. The team has started to fight and the performance has changed.

Morace spoke about if the team will look to finish at the top of Serie B Women this season.

We’ll do everything we can to try, we want to keep winning, we’re on that track and we don’t want to get distracted. A good relationship has been created with the players, training session after training session.

The team has always responded on the field, they have trained hard and have put into practice principles and schemes never tried before.

Finally, Morace spoke about the future.

Now we’re focused on Vicenza, we don’t have to think about next season. However, we must sit down with the president and establish a project and a common plan, laying the foundations for the future together.
