Salernitana coach Fabrizio Castori expressed pride in his style of football after the Campania-based side’s confirmed promotion to Serie A on Monday.
Speaking in an interview as reported by Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the 66-year-old Italian first spoke about his relationship with Lazio president Claudio Lotito.
Lotito is a fighter, he saw that we are made of the same stuff and he endorsed my requests and ideas.
Castori then replied to the criticisms that his style of football isn’t fit for the modern world.
I get sleepy when I see teams that make a hundred passes without ever shooting on goal. I consider myself modern, I play the football of Jurgen Klopp, Diego Simeone and Pep Guardiola.
Mine is effective football, horizontal passes in defense are useless.
With Salernitana’s promotion to Serie A now confirmed, president Claudio Lotito will be forced to sell the Campania-based outfit in less than 30 days, as it’s against the rules for the Italian businessman to own two clubs in the same division.
It remains to be seen how beneficial this will be for Lazio, as it would allow Lotito to make greater investments in the Biancocelesti project and it would be his sole focus, but the Roman club would also lose a feeder team that helped them develop players with loan deals, like Luiz Felipe.
