Lazio Striker Immobile: “I’m Positive About Euro 2020 Because the Squad Is There”

Lazio striker Ciro Immobile spoke about the joys of having his family at the Stati Generali della Natalità event this afternoon.

Speaking at the event held to address the low birth rate in Italy, the 31-year-old Italian striker discussed his happiness with his wife and children. His words were collected by Italian media outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi.

It’s nice for us to be able to be here and talk about our family, as a father and mother of three beautiful children. I come from a very large family, I grew up with this culture. We have the Holy Father’s blessing for the fourth child, but you have to talk to Jessica about that!

My family is my nest when I come home and they are waiting for me, it’s always a different emotion. I see them grow day by day, even if I didn’t experience them much at the beginning.

When we had Michela, I was playing in Serie B, I wasn’t in this situation, I didn’t know what would happen. It was a big responsibility to start a family.

The Biancocelesti star touched on the difficulties of being a parent during the Covid-19 lockdown, as well as his desires as a father.

It’s not easy for them either, we live 80% of our lives outside the house. During the lockdown I really spent time with my children, it was strange for them too because they are not used to seeing me on a daily basis.

I would like to accompany my children hand in hand to make their dreams come true, not push them, like my parents did with me. This is the biggest responsibility.

He looked ahead to this summer’s European Championship.

I think it’ll go well, I am positive because the squad is there. To win the European Championship you have to create a family, qualities are useful up to a certain point if there is not the right mix.

Immobile spoke about his relationship with Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini.

We’re very good friends, we go on holiday together. His little girl was born together with Mattia, that’s outside football.

His wife Jessica Melena then spoke about her first date with Ciro.

On the third date he told me you will be the mother of my children. I thought he was trying to trick me, it seemed a bit exaggerated, but that’s what happened.

Finally, Melena spoke about how her children feature regularly on their social media pages and Immobile’s qualities as a father and husband.

It happens naturally because they are our life. Footballers have young children because they miss their families when they leave home early. I think Ciro has missed his parents.

He’s a father who is present despite his work, he’s much stricter than me. He wants the best, especially when it comes to education, I’m a bit softer. He’s a wonderful father and husband.

The Stati Generali della Natalità was set up by the Italian government to address the country’s worryingly low birth rate, especially concerning considering the financial and health impact of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
