“The Team Was Not Good At Reacting” – Simone Inzaghi Comments on Lazio Falling 2-0 to Roma

It’s never easy to lose a derby as Lazio fell 2-0 to AS Roma in the latest Derby della Capitale. This loss to their archrival marks the second loss in their last three games, and it puts out any ambitions the club had of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

After the loss, manager Simone Inzaghi spoke with the media at his press conference, where Lazio News relayed the comments made by the Italian tactician concerning the defeat to Roma.

We had a good first half where we had two great chances through Luis Alberto and Milinkovic-Savic. The team was not good at reacting after the goal we conceded, and we weren’t delivering in the second half. Going behind was a huge blow. Tonight we suffered a lot from the derby.

The following question that Inzaghi answered is over Lazio’s failure to secure a Champions League birth as they aimed to participate in Europe’s top competition for a second consecutive season after reaching the knockout stages this past campaign.

We are sorry not to have reached our goal. If we hadn’t lost so many points in the first half of the season, we would have made it.

Inzaghi’s future continues to be a talking point as his contract expires next month. As the 2020-21 season reaches its conclusion, one of the final questions asked is how contract extension talks are going between him and the club.

After these two final games, I will speak with Lotito and Tare. We will try to understand the objectives together, which I believe will be common. However, I am satisfied with the season.

The only real disappointment of the season is the defeat tonight, even if we came short. Correa’s injury and Milinkovic’s operation affected us. The first leg of the derby was a great joy but today was a disappointment.
