“Victory Certainly Gives a Little Joy” – Edin Džeko Provides Thoughts in Roma’s Win over Lazio

Lazio fell in the latest installment Derby della Capitale 2-0 to AS Roma, and one of the key contributors in defeating the Biancocelesti was Edin Džeko.

The 35-year-old played 89 minutes and assisted the first goal when the forward got by Francesco Acerbi to put a cross to Henrikh Mkhitaryan who would score right before halftime.

Džeko spoke to the microphone of DAZN (via Lazio News), where he touched on Roma’s performance in the victory over Lazio.

This victory certainly gives a little joy. We all knew it was not a season among the best, but the derby is always the derby. We wanted to do everything to finish this season well, especially after losing the first leg against Lazio. We were a real team; we suffered a little but deservedly won the game.

Another question that Džeko answered is over their squad wanting a derby victory over Lazio as manager Paulo Fonseca would be departing the club after the season.

The coach said it would be his last home game and asked us if we could win for him too. We did it for him, for the fans, and for the club.

This victory by Roma provides them with their first win over their rival since 2018. However, it also ends any hopes that Lazio had of reaching the UEFA Champions League after participating in the competition this past season. As a result, the loss might feel like two for the players on the squad.
