Lazio and Simone Inzaghi remain at a stalemate regarding their possible contract extension agreement. Amid all the rumours and speculation that a deal between the two sides will come to fruition before the season’s end, this still has not yet transpired.
In the meantime, Lazio has looked towards other managers as potential candidates to replace Inzaghi should he go on to leave the Biancocelesti in the summer. As noted by the Italian-based outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Lazio is showing an early interest in not only Napoli’s Gennaro Gattuso but also FC Porto’s Sergio Conceicao.
The report adds that although Gattuso has been linked with possibly becoming Fiorentina’s next manager, he is not intrigued with such a move. Thus, Lazio has re-opened its interest in bringing in Gattuso if Inzaghi departs from the club in the next month.
Lazio is also considering making a move for Portuguese manager Conceicao. The Porto coach will become a free agent manager at the end of the season. Conceicao’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is expected to see out whether he will remain with Porto or leave the club after a four-year stint there.
Gattuso and Conceicao each have had their fair share of ups and downs this season. Napoli will finish the season trophyless but currently stands among the top-four teams in the Serie A table.
On the other hand, Conceicao was unable to lead Porto to a second consecutive Primeira Liga title but did come away with multiple impressive wins over the season, such as the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 victory against Juventus.
Lazio has also been linked with other managers as well, such as former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, although there is no word as to the extent of the Biancocelesti’s interest in this possible hire.
It remains to be seen whether Lazio is leaning towards keeping Inzaghi or if the side will make a serious run at either of these three managers.
