Gianluca Di Marzio States That Lazio and Simone Inzaghi Are Likely to Part Ways This Summer

Lazio’s fixture against U.S. Sassuolo Calcio could be the last for manager Simone Inzaghi, whose contract expires next month.

After months of contract extension talks, both sides have failed to reach an agreement, and now the Biancocelesti appear to be eyeing other options. One of the two managers that Lazio is reportedly in talks with is Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso, and it seems as though the feeling is mutual.

Italian football journalist Gianluca Di Marzio provided another update on the coaching carousel that could hit Serie A clubs in the coming days during his appearance on Sky Sport (via Lazio News).

Between tomorrow and Tuesday, Paulo Fonseca can become Fiorentina’s first choice, who is still waiting for Gattuso. Still, he wants to stay focused on the last day of the Napoli season. Between tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, Gattuso will give a definitive answer to Fiorentina and Lazio, who want him.

Then Di Marzio spoke specifically about the situation going on at Lazio, where he revealed that both owner Claudio Lotito and Inzaghi have thought about mutually parting ways after the season. It’s been months of discussions, and no contract has resulted from these talks.

Many times, Lotito and Inzaghi have reached a point where they thought of a breakup. However, Lotito contacted other coaches this time and asked for meetings, like in the case of Gattuso. There is the president’s decision to want change regardless of Simone’s will to stay or not. Maybe even Simone knows that other coaches have been contacted; they are likely to reach a consensual separation.

As Lazio played its final Serie A fixture against U.S. Sassuolo Calcio, it could mark the end of an era.
