“We Want to Win the Game on Our Own Merits” – Sassuolo’s Roberto de Zerbi Discusses the Match Against Lazio

Lazio will be heading to Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore for their final fixture of the 2020-21 Serie A season against U.S. Sassuolo Calcio. The matchup won’t affect the standings as the Biancocelesti will remain in sixth place. However, for Sassuolo, they could finish in seventh if they get a favorable result with an AS Roma loss and clinch a UEFA Europa League spot.

Nonetheless, ahead of the match, there could be two managers possibly coaching their last game. Simone Inzaghi’s contract expires next month, and rumors surfaced that Lazio is looking for a potential replacement. On the other side, Sassuolo’s Roberto De Zerbi is headed to be the next manager of Ukraine giant Shakhtar Donetsk.

De Zerbi spoke about the match during his press conference as he would like to go out on a winning note. One of the first questions the Italian tactician answered is providing his thoughts against facing Lazio.

Tomorrow we want to win; I’m sure we will play a great match against an organized, strong, and physical team like Lazio. We don’t expect gifts from anyone; we want to win the game on our own merits. It’s true that we still are in the running for the Europa League, but also to reach 62 points, which would be a record for this club.

Finally, De Zerbi touched on what players wouldn’t be available for his squad against Lazio.

Outside Magnanelli, Raspadori is to be evaluated for a problem; I don’t want to risk anything. It’s nothing serious, but I don’t think I need to force him to play. I hope he will return to the Azzurri group for the World Cup.
