Italy National Team Officials Provide a Key Update With Lazio Defender Acerbi’s Notable Injury

Lazio defender Francesco Acerbi faced a notable injury scare earlier this month. The Italian defender at one point reportedly feared that he would miss out on representing the Italian national team in the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament due to a collateral ligament injury, but he has made promising progress from this injury since then.

However, Acerbi did go on to miss Lazio’s Serie A season finale against Sassuolo due to this injury, although the defender may not have played in the match, either way, had he been fully fit.

On Tuesday, Italian national team doctor Andrea Ferretti detailed reassuring news regarding Acerbi’s injury. Ferretti did not provide a final decision as to Acerbi’s availability for the upcoming Euro 2020 tournament but did mention (via the FIGC’s official website) that the defender is progressing well.

The one who is in better shape is Acerbi, then we are keeping Sensi and Raspadori’s conditions under control. It is important that the clubs have provided us with fundamental indications on the condition of the players.

Acerbi was among the players selected by Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini for the team’s upcoming two international-friendly fixtures. It will be noteworthy to see whether Acerbi goes on to feature in either of these two prep matches.
