Lazio’s May Slump Under Inzaghi Continues For 5th Consecutive Year

Lazio’s disappointing run at the end of this season has continued the team’s streak of slumping in May.

As reported by Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, the Biancocelesti have a habit of dropping points in the final month of the season. In fact, the team have lost the last match of the season every year for the past five years.

Across 16 total matches played in May in the last five years, Lazio have won four, drawn four and lost eight, a situation that often derails the Roman club’s targets for the season.

In the 2016/17 season, Lazio lost the final three games of the season against Fiorentina, Inter and Crotone.

The following year, the Biancocelesti lost their last match of the season in the quasi-Champions League playoff game against Inter.

In the 2018/19 season, Lazio won only one of their four matches in May, losing the last game to Torino. They only qualified for Europe that season due to their Coppa Italia win.

The Covid-19 pandemic changed the situation a little last campaign, but the Biancocelesti did falter after the resumption of the season, killing their title hopes.

This season, history repeated itself again, with Simone Inzaghi’s side only winning two of their six May games.
