Negotiations Are Underway Between Lazio and Bayern Munich Defender Jérôme Boateng

Although Lazio finds itself in a managerial search after the departure of Simone Inzaghi, the club will also have an eye on the transfer market as it looks for ways to improve the squad and make another run at a top-four finish in 2021-22.

One area that Lazio wants to improve in is their defense. Wesley Hoedt is on a loan deal and will return to his parent club Southampton. Meanwhile, Mateo Musacchio’s future is up in the air as there’s interest from Fatih Karagümrük and Real Betis.

With possibly multiple departures at central defense, Lazio will add a defender to offset the potential losses, and it appears as though they have a player in mind.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Lazio are in advanced talks to land FC Bayern Munich defender Jérôme Boateng.

The Italian media outlet states that the discussions are in their final hours, and a deal could be in place to secure the services of the veteran defender; Boateng would be joining the Rome-based club on a free transfer when his contract expires next month.

The German would bring plenty of big-game experience, winning the FIFA World Cup with Germany in 2014 and the UEFA Champions League on two occasions.
