Italian Journalist Pedullà: “Sarri Has Only Said Yes to Lazio, It’s Serious”

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà highlighted how Maurizio Sarri has made Lazio his priority for now.

Speaking in an interview with Italian radio broadcaster Radiosei (via Cittaceleste.it) earlier today, the transfer market expert confirmed the Biancocelesti’s serious interest in the former Napoli coach and what the next steps will be.

It’s not a suggestion, it’s serious. An era, that of Inzaghi, is over and a revolutionary cycle of real football can begin. Sarri is at the top of the list. There’s his liking for Lazio.

He is back from a sabbatical year, now by today Juve will have to let him know if they intend to renew his contract or trigger the penalty of €2.5 million.

Juve have an interest in ending the relationship with Sarri. At that point the coach would be free, he has only given his yes to Lazio.

Things change quickly, but in this case, I think things can go well. I don’t foresee any meetings today or tomorrow.

Pedullà noted Biancocelesti president Claudio Lotito’s ambitions and desire to build a strong project in the Italian capital.

The whole square is fired up, it’s a good thing. There’s talk of an important coach who had a breakdown in negotiations with Roma. Someone has used him, it was a done deal.

Lotito is ambitious, it’s an operation that will cost him. At €2.8 million plus add-ons we can close it. Sarri likes the squad, the team is transformable. I don’t think this deal can be blown up for a few euros.

Finally, Pedullà gave his thoughts on the likelihood of Lazio signing Sarri and the other offers that the 62-year-old Italian coach has received.

I’m going well over 50% probability. It’s a penalty without a goalkeeper, we need to do something different. It’s going to be an important week, from the day after tomorrow onwards we’ll get into the swing of things.

We have to wait for Juve’s moves, it’s an important step. Sarri has received offers from Turkey at double the salary, then something from England, but he has only given priority to Lazio.

Sarri is Lotito’s top option to replace Simone Inzaghi, who left Rome after five years in order to fill Antonio Conte’s position at Inter.

The Biancocelesti president’s main alternative to Sarri is Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano, who has already been contacted by the Roman club.

Further updates are expected later this week when Sarri and Lotito will meet to further discuss the deal.
