Lazio Rebuffed André Villas-Boas’ Proposal to Focus On Deal for Maurizio Sarri

Lazio were the ones who turned down former Olympique de Marseille coach André Villas-Boas, and not the other way around.

As reported by Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà earlier today, the 43-year-old Portuguese coach’s entourage proposed him to the Biancocelesti as a potential replacement for Simone Inzaghi, who left Rome after five years to join Inter.

Villas-Boas’ proposal to Lazio came between Wednesday and Thursday last week, and a private flight was booked for Saturday last week.

When Lazio president Claudio Lotito realised that he may be able to sign former Juventus and Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri instead, he rebuffed all other options and focused on negotiations with the 62-year-old Italian coach.

Villas-Boas has been out of a job since February of this year, after having a falling out with the Marseille board over the transfer policy.

Lazio are set to have a meeting with Sarri later this week and there is hope in the Biancocelesti environment that a deal can be closed.
