Spezia’s Vincenzo Italiano Is Lotito’s Plan B Should Maurizio Sarri Not Sign for Lazio

Lazio president Claudio Lotito has identified Spezia’s Vincenzo Italiano as his preferred plan B should the talks with Maurizio Sarri fail to bear fruit.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Messaggero (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the 43-year-old Italiano is Lotito’s preferred alternative to Sarri, should the former Juventus and Napoli coach decide not to sign for the Roman club.

The Biancocelesti have prepared a two-year contract with an option for a third year for Sarri worth around €3.5 million net per season, with add-ons linked to Champions League qualification. A meeting between the two parties is set to take place later this week.

Should Sarri not sign with Lazio, then Lotito would look to hire Italiano instead. The Biancocelesti president met the Spezia coach yesterday and the 43-year-old will not sign a contract renewal with Spezia until the situation is resolved.

Lotito and sporting director Igli Tare appreciate that Sarri is a top option and could be a strong project in the Italian capital.
