Bayern Munich Defender Jérôme Boateng Speaks About His Future Amid Lazio Links

Last week, rumors surfaced that Lazio is having advance discussions with FC Bayern Munich defender Jérôme Boateng, who will be departing the German giant once his contract expires later this month.

The Rome-based club would like to reshape its backline as it will see departures this summer, and it appears as though Lazio wants to bring in veteran defenders who can help them in 2021-22.

Boateng would fit the bill of an experienced defender that a manager like Maurizio Sarri could rely on should he take over the managerial reigns. Furthermore, Lazio has had some luck bringing in veterans and putting them in places to succeed.

Nonetheless, the current Bayern Munich stated that he doesn’t know where he’ll be playing next season during an interview with Bayern Munich’s 51 Magazine (via Lazio News). Pepe Reina and Francesco Acerbi are recent examples of the Biancocelesti succeeding with veteran signings.

I don’t know yet where I will go, but I already have clear ideas. I did very well last season, I haven’t lost a single match through injury. In my current conditions I can play at the highest levels for another 2-3 years.

Perhaps going after Boateng, who states he has two or three years of high-level football in him, would be an excellent addition to the squad, considering he has Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, and a FIFA World Cup under his belt.
