50 years ago today, coach Tommaso Maestrelli signed with Lazio, three years before he guided the team to their first Scudetto.

As seen in a post on Lazio’s Twitter page earlier today, the Italian coach signed for the Biancocelesti on the 7th June 1971, replacing coach Roberto Lovati.

At the time, the Roman club were down in Serie B but would return to the Italian topflight for the 1972/73 season, where they took part in an unexpected and exciting title race, losing out on the final day of the season.

The next campaign was the most special – the Biancocelesti’s Scudetto winning 1973/74 season.
