Lazio have expressed their interest in Atalanta forward Josip Ilicic as they look to strengthen the squad.

As reported by Italian newspaper La Repubblica (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Biancocelesti have sounded out the 33-year-old Slovenian, who is contracted to the Bergamo-based club until the end of next season.

With only one year left on his deal, Lazio may be able to pick up Ilicic in a low-cost deal, with new coach Maurizio Sarri wanting a few reinforcements this summer to raise the level of the squad and provide more options for his tactical system, with the Slovenian fitting a 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2 formation.

The 33-year-old Ilicic made 38 appearances across all competitions this season for Atalanta, for a total of 1889 minutes. In that time, he scored seven goals and provided 11 assists.
