Fiorentina & Lazio Both Keen on Expiring Spezia Midfielder Matteo Ricci

Fiorentina and Lazio are both interested in signing Spezia midfielder Matteo Ricci, who will become a free agent at the end of this month.

As reported by Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) earlier today, new coach Maurizio Sarri has spoken in length with sporting director Igli Tare about which types of players are required to reinforce the squad, with the 27-year-old Italian being identified as a good fit.

Ricci is set to leave Spezia at the end of this month after his contract expires. The Ligurian club are considering whether or not to offer him the renewal, but the feeling currently is that he is destined to depart this summer.

Both Fiorentina and Lazio are keen on the player, with Sampdoria also registering their interest, but the Viola hold the advantage for now.

Born and raised in Trigoria, Ricci is wary of possibly betraying his Roma past; he is a product of the Giallorossi’s youth system.

Fiorentina coach Gennaro Gattuso is incredibly keen on the 27-year-old Italian, but the Biancocelesti are not planning to give up easily, hoping that the appointment of Sarri will help convince the former Giallorossi man.
