Genoa Thrash Lazio 5–0 for Calori’s First Game in Charge in the Primavera 1 TIM

Lazio faced Genoa away in Matchday 29 of the 2020/21 Primavera 1 TIM season.

The Ligurian side were in total control of the match and walked away 5-0 victors, leaving the Biancocelesti to lick their wounds near the bottom of the Primavera 1 table, with the Roman club having failed to win in the last nine consecutive matches.

Alessandro Calori took over from Leonardo Menichini for his first game in charge and the 5-0 thrashing shows how much work lays ahead of the Italian coach.

Lazio have only picked up 19 points out of 29 games, a painful position for the team.

The game initially started well, with both sides sharing the chances in the opening 20 minutes. The balance of the match, however, changed after 20-year-old Brazilian Felipe Estrella beat the Biancocelesti defenders and opened the scoring.

Italian teenager Mirco Ferrante almost found an equaliser for the Roman club after half an hour, with his shot forcing a save before bouncing off the crossbar, but a quick response from the Rossoblu saw the Ligurian side double their lead, effectively swinging the pendulum of momentum in favour of Genoa. The second half followed a similar pattern.

The Lazio Primavera squad will not enjoy analyzing this defeat but it’s clear that a lot of work must be done in order to raise the team to the expected level.
