Lazio President Lotito Expresses His Grief at Yesterday’s Tragedy in Ardea

Lazio president Claudio Lotito expressed his grief at the tragedy in Ardea, in which two young boys and an older man were killed by a stranger.

The statement was released on Lazio’s official website earlier today and Lotito highlighted his sadness at the senseless tragedy. The older of the two brothers, Daniel Fusinato, was set to play for Lazio’s youth setup in the summer.

Below is the statement in full:

I am dismayed and infinitely saddened by a tragedy that leaves one speechless. We send our condolences to the families of the victims and our special thoughts to the parents of David and Daniel.

In our hearts we will cherish their dreams and hopes for success in football under the Biancocelesti colours. We will take their smiles and their desire to live and play with us.

Yesterday in Ardea, in the Colle Romito district of Rome, a 34-year-old Andrea Pignani left his house with a pistol and shot widely, killing 74-year-old Salvatore Ranieri and brothers Daniel and David Fusinato, 10 and 5 years old.

Following this, he returned to his house and barricaded himself inside. He then took his own life with the same pistol.

There was no history between Pignani and the victims and a motive is currently unclear. The two brothers were simply playing in the street, whilst Mr. Ranieri was cycling by.
