Lazio will be sure to have an eye on the free-agent market this summer as the club seeks to sign off on bargain deals.

Among the impending free agents that have been linked with a possible move to Lazio is German and long-time Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The former Bundesliga winner will become a free agent this summer as Bayern elected not to pursue a contract extension agreement with the defender. However, Lazio may already be out of the running in the Boateng sweepstakes.

As noted by the Italian-based outlet La Lazio Siamo Noi, Boateng is looking to sign with a club that will be taking part in next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.

Lazio failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage due to its sixth-place finish in the final Serie A table this past season. As a result, the Biancocelesti will instead feature in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Boateng is currently assessing all of his options amid his upcoming status as a free agent; Lazio will now likely have to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements.
