Exclusive: Fabrizio Romano States Chelsea Striker Reached Verbal Agreement With Lazio Last Year Before Deal Collapsed

Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud had reached a verbal agreement with Lazio in last January’s transfer window (2020) but a deal never materialised.

As revealed in The Laziali’s exclusive interview with Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 34-year-old Frenchman was heavily linked with the Biancocelesti in the January 2020 transfer window and had reached a verbal agreement regarding the contract, but in the end, the deal fell through.

Giroud never signed the deal with Lazio and the transfer window ended up closely before anything was finalised, leaving the Frenchman in London.

Chelsea have since renewed his contract twice, and he will now be tied to the Blues until the end of June next year (2022).

Inter were also interested in the 2020 January transfer window but failed to strike a deal with Chelsea.

AC Milan are now keen to acquire the 2018 World Cup winner, with a move to Lazio ultimately seeming unlikely.

The 34-year-old Giroud scored 11 goals in 31 games across all competitions this season, including four in a single Champions League match against Sevilla.
