Lazio is well expected to go out and acquire a starting left-back over the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Biancocelesti are now in the rumor mill with yet another left-back as the Italian-based outlet TuttoMercatoWeb notes that club officials are interested in signing soon-to-be-former Crystal Palace defender Patrick van Aanholt.
Lazio has already reached out to Van Aanholt’s representatives to establish preliminary contacts about signing the defender to a free transfer deal. The Biancocelesti are well set on hauling in the Dutch talent, who will become a free agent on July 1.
Van Aanholt has spent the past five seasons with Crystal Palace, where he emerged as the team’s perennial starting left-back.
Lazio has also been linked with the likes of Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares, so it remains to be seen whether club officials plan to sign the Portuguese talent or will opt to pursue Van Aanholt to a multi-year free transfer agreement.
Furthermore, the Biancocelesti would likely face competition for the player, as he has been recently linked with both Arsenal and Leeds United.
For now, Van Aanholt is currently focused on helping the Netherlands national team pull off a deep run in the Euro 2020 tournament.
